Week 5: (Part 2) Check the Form

Image
Another project involved taking 7 identical objects and changing each of their forms in a specific way. Subtraction, addition, symmetrical, asymmetrical, abstraction, deformed & fragmentation. The cups are my entry & the soap is one of my coursemate’s - I think the contrast and sequence is great, as well as the 2D “code” on the left

Week 5: (Part 1) Mosaic or Lessaic

Image
This Week’s project was to apply the Mosaic filter on photoshop to a number of images & study the result. My favourite is the detail brought out in the orange door, the contrast between the colours is still effective. The sunset achieves the same quality too. My least favourite is the outcome of pixelating the black door, the textures are lost and that’s what I love about that image

Week 4: (Part 3) Changing 3D Form

Image
Our next project involves transforming 7 identical items in different ways; subtractive, additive, symmetrical, asymmetrical, abstractive, deformed & fragmented. In an effort understand each change better I decide to put simple object through each change and recorded each as a sketch I then tided you in pen.

Week 4: (Part 2) Abstract Extracts

Image
I’ve been getting the feeling my drawing has become overly careful and to focused on the outcome of the work, rather than the process. I decided to look into abstract work, looked at a few artists and started sketches that included only circles and triangles, choosing features I liked from the previous drawing and adapting the next.

Week 4: (Part 1) Shrubs in Pubs

Image
This week it was back to my favourite sketching spot in Cheltenham, a bar playing blues music. I sit in the window and decide what I want to draw and all of a sudden 2 hours have gone by. I chose to work on drawing a few shrubs and started drawing in pen, something I’ve never done before.

Week 3: (Part 3) Adjusting Scale using Photoshop

Image
This task involved creating a model, taking photos of it and then using photoshop to lasso and resize the image to represent it in different scaled scenarios

Week 3: (Part 2) Trees in Pencil

Image
This week I worked at improving my drawing of organic form, specifically trees. I tried to imply the presence of foliage instead of having to draw every leaf and found the technique was a successful one. Showing the presence of the trunk within the mass of leaves adds to the realness and shadow in key places adds to the depth.

Week 3: (Part 1) Showing Juxtaposition in a Narrative Display

Image
We were given the task of representing a narrative through the use of 5 photos that shared the same colour scheme, as well as 5 objects that had different materials. We had to use juxtaposition in the display. My narrative was the Owl & the pussycat. The masks are staring up at a ring that stands vertically above the rest of the items (showing the outcome of the story). Different items are intended to immerse the user in the story through stimulating a number different senses. Ps. The candle is honey scented and the fruit is Sharon fruit (as close as I could get to a quince)

Week 2: (Part 2) Animals & colours

Image
I tried to find different animals whose coats compliment each other and working with yellow and brown focused on the leopard & owl. The project I’m working on has me have to show this as two objects and so I’ve made them into masks (inspired by uk hip hop group The 4 OWls)

Week 2: (Part 1) Landscapes in colour

Image
A bit of experimenting with pencil, markers and acrylic. Although the painting at the bottom is messy I really like the technique of swiping the cypress trees and started trying to improve that on the right side of the sketchbook page
